Urgent Appeal

Humanitarian Media Center (HMC) expresses its deep concern over the worsening humanitarian conditions faced by displaced persons in Aden City, following the heavy rains and flash floods that swept through the city on the morning of Saturday, causing significant damage to both displacement camps and residential neighborhoods.

Particularly affected was Ammar bin Yasser Camp in Dar Saad District, which hosts around 500 displaced families (over 3,000 individuals). The floods submerged tents, destroyed food supplies and household belongings, and turned the camp into pools of stagnant water, posing serious health and environmental risks.

According to data received from the Executive Unit for IDPs Camps Management in Aden, the rains and flooding have affected a total of 5,394 displaced families and 20,154 individuals, with 2,683 shelters partially damaged and 1,922 shelters completely destroyed.

In light of this humanitarian tragedy, the Humanitarian Media Center:

* Calls on local authorities and relevant agencies to take urgent action to drain floodwaters from affected camps and neighborhoods and to provide alternative, safe shelter for displaced families.
* Urges international, regional, and local humanitarian organizations to promptly deliver emergency assistance, food, water, non-food items, and health supplies, to those affected.
* Warns of the looming health and environmental dangers posed by stagnant water, which could lead to outbreaks of waterborne diseases and epidemics.

The Center affirms that displaced families and vulnerable communities in Aden are facing yet another humanitarian catastrophe, adding to their years-long suffering. Immediate and decisive intervention is critical to ensure their safety and survival.
